Raised in Nadiad, India, Vijay Rao had two big dreams: to one day own a restaurant and to make Bollywood films. In the fall of 2013, Rao was able to fulfill both his dreams with the opening of Dhoom, a Bollywood-themed restaurant in Secaucus, New Jersey.

Rao’s first restaurant venture was Bukhara Grill, which opened in midtown Manhattan in 1999, offering northwestern Indian specialties and a traditional, yet sophisticated atmosphere. Twelve years later, Rao went on to open Tulsi, a Michelin Star-rated Indian restaurant alongside renowned Chef Hermant Mathur and Chef Dhandu Ram before finally applying his love of film to his latest venture, Dhoom.

Dhoom features the culinary expertise of Chefs Mathur and Ram within a Bollywood-themed space. Indian film awards line the shelves at the entrance. Posters of Bollywood’s most popular films create a collage over an entire wall. Even the menus reflect the cinematic theme.
